Dr. Tim Osslund

TImothy Osslund began his academic career by obtaining an Associate of Science degree from Ventura Junior College before transferring to UC Davis where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. He then joined Amgen's Research department in 1981 and worked on a variety of projects, including the Naphthalene Dioxygenase program, which produced Indigo dye from bacteria and was featured on the cover of Science in October 1983.

Osslund completed his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at UCLA in 1993 for his work on the X-ray Crystallographic structure of Granulocyte-Colony Stimulating Factor (Neupogen). After completing his Ph.D., he founded the Molecular Structure and Design group at Amgen. Dr. Osslund holds dozens of patents on the structural application of Amgen therapeutics as well as patents on Crystallization and Biological Therapeutic Formulation. He worked on the Commercial Formulation development of several protein therapeutics, including Romosozumab and Repatha, and retired from his position as Principal Scientist at Amgen, after over 36 years of research and development.

Dr. Osslund has a background in the educational community in Ventura County, having served as a former member of the Mesa Union School District School Board and a judge for the Ventura County Science Fair. He also served as a mentor in the Scientist Mentoring & Diversity Program (SMDP), where he focused on mentoring graduate students who are underrepresented in the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, Dr. Osslund is an adjunct professor at California State University Channel Islands, teaching classes in Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery and Development, Pharmacogenomics, and Structural Biochemistry.
